Mistletoes are widely used for Christmas decoration. The custom of kissing under a branch of mistletoe seems to have originated among the Druids and other early Europeans, to whom mistletoe was sacred. From early times it has been associated with folklore and superstition; it was thought to cure many ills.

kissing under the mistletoeA common custom at Christmas time was to place a sprig of mistletoe above a door frame or hang it from the ceiling of the dwelling. During the frequent get-togethers, any female who lingered there was fair game for a harmless kiss from nearby males. Today, greenery is still much used, but the use of mistletoe is seldom practiced even though almost everyone has heard of the custom of kissing under the mistletoe. Today where sexual freedom is so widespread, such a custom may seem sweetly quaint and naive and perhaps is not sophisticated enough to survive our modern moral standards.

Radko Christmas Ornament

There is nothing wrong with a traditional Christmas Tree decorated with handmade crafts, candy canes and multi colored lights. However if you are going to do any entertainment you might wish to consider a more elegant style, try for understated elegance such as a Christopher Radko Theme. Examples: Radko Santa’s, Bells and Balls.

    • Choose a few categories of Radko Christmas Ornaments and stick with these.
    • Get enough strands of tiny white lights. For class nothing else will do.
    • Buy a tree and set it up, this should be a spruce or fir not a pine.
    • Start with the lights and check for symmetry.
    • Then add the Glass Christmas Ornaments, one at a time, rearrange if necessary.
    • Position your highlight ornaments for best effect.
    • Use Flowers to fill the small vacant areas. Examples would include: Roses and Baby’s Breath. If you chose Roses have the florist place each in a plastic water stem.
    • Think of the tree, lights and flowers as a backdrop and your Radko Christmas Ornaments as highlights.
