Christmas Gift con't

No one was really exchanging formal Christmas gifts until the late 1800s. The story of Santa Claus, along with experts in retailing has turned Christmas not only into the most celebrated Christian holiday but also into the largest retailing event of the year. A phenomenon that has grown since the turn of the century has made Christmas gift giving a central focus of the Christmas tradition.
Especially in America, the weeks following Thanksgiving are the biggest shopping weeks of the year. Many retailers make the vast majority of their annual revenue during this time. Therefore, retailers also promote Christmas beyond belief.
According to the encyclopedia, “a Gift is the voluntary transfer of property from one person to another without any compensation for it and without any obligation.” While there are those who are expecting a gift in return, Christmas has also become a time of giving with the feeling of helping being its own reward. Examples would be donations to charities like toys for tots, helping feed the homeless and other volunteer work. Christopher Radko designs several new ornaments each year and a portion of the proceeds go to heart, cancer and aids research. Other Radko Christmas Ornaments benefit education and animal related causes.
Today the celebration of Christmas tends to emphasize commercial and other non-religious aspects of the holiday. For many the time to Christmas is measured by shopping days, rather than for prayer or days to reflect on one’s life. For retailers, it is truly the season to be jolly, (except when their expectations are too high). An estimated one-sixth of retail sales in the United States are Christmas purchases.
However, polls have shown that over 90% of Americans regard Christmas to be their favorite holiday. Many rejoice in the spirit of giving and receiving and coming up with the perfect Christmas Gift Idea. Christmas has become, above all, a celebration of the family.
